I thought qualitative research was simply interviewing participants and generating themes, until I took a qualitative research methods course during my doctoral education at West Virginia University 12 years ago.
Also, working closely with my supervisor as we worked on funded projects, I began to appreciate the need to:
Be aware of the philosophical assumptions associated with qualitative research
Make sure I am asking the right questions when interviewing participants
Develop codes and themes that reflect data collected and answer the research questions I have
Be transparent in the research process
Keep my audience in mind when presenting my findings
Demonstrate how the findings can be used
These experiences have made me who I am today.
If you plan to be a qualitative researcher, I have provided 10 skills you need to have. Click below to download the file.
In case you wish to gain or perfect these skills, my upcoming webinar is a perfect place to start. I will be simplifying the qualitative research process for you. You’ll learn a lot in this webinar. I hope to see you on Sunday.
